Schnur
My great-great grandfather, Samuel Schnur, was born in Debica on March 15,
1872.
He was the son of Itcha (Isidor) Schnur and Rifca (Rebecca) Schnur
(maiden name Putter). Itcha and Rifca had a farm and beer brewery in Debica
and died around 1885.
Their son, Samuel, came to the United States around
1887 and settled on New York City's Lower East Side, where my
great-grandmother was born in 1900.
Samuel Schnur, my great-great
grandfather, had an older sister Esther (born 1868) who married Pincus
Riedler and settled in Wiewiorka, a shtetl neighboring Debica. Her husband
Pincus Riedler was from the shtetl of Zassow, also near Debica.
Esther and
her husband came to the United States in 1920 and also settled in New York
City.
Samuel and Esther has two sisters: Miriam (a.k.a Mary) who came to the
United States around 1893, settled in Brooklyn, New York, and married a man
named Max Winzelberg.
The other sister was Annie (born about 1883) who came
to the United States around 1897, settled in New York City, and married a man
named Harry Goodman.
